Esta hierba de crecimiento salvaje e intensa fragancia es nativa de Los Andes; tambi\u00e9n es conocida como wacataya o huacatay, que viene del vocablo quechua \u201cwakatay\u201d y quiere decir \u201cflor maravilla\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Su uso medicinal fue reconocido desde tiempos remotos en la cultura incaica, donde se la utilizaba para combatir catarros y bronquitis, algo que todav\u00eda se sigue haciendo. Tambi\u00e9n ayuda al proceso digestivo, en las comidas o como infusi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tiene un aroma y un sabor potente, con similitudes a albahaca, menta, estrag\u00f3n y lim\u00f3n que ha conquistado a otros pa\u00edses latinoamericanos y ha invadido cocinas europeas.  Es utilizada para preparar salsas y condimentar carnes.
